Registration open now for the hpc4climate Summer School 2025!
By refactoring the coupled ICON configuration and enabling a scalable model development, WarmWorld manages to create additional synapses between climate science and mathematics and informatics. At the same time, the gradual establishment of the WarmWorld community has brought to focus the limitations of the talent pool for scientific programming, as well as the gender imbalance associated to it. To address this situation and highlight the opportunities of the climate modeling field, WarmWorld partners with the ESiWACE3 project and announces the hpc4climate Summer School.
This hpc4climate Summer School wants to demonstrate the appeal of applying mathematics and informatics in the field of Earth system sciences, an will do so though using hands-on exercises to directly address problems related to climate simulations. We therefore invite applications for the school from Master and early-PhD students in Computer Science, Data Science, Techno-mathematics, Applied Mathematics, as well as students from Meterology and Climate science with programming skills and an interest in Scientific Computing.
Our team of exceptional lecturers and keynote speakers will guide the participants in exploring the fundamentals of climate science and the application of high-performance computing and software engineering, data science, and heterogeneous computing in climate modelling. Through practical exercises, students will gain firsthand experience working with the ICON climate model.
All details on the school, including the conditions for registration, can be found on the school’s website: https://hpc4climate2025.org/
Deadline for applications: 30 April 2025
Thanks to the sponsors supporting this event, the participants are only expected to cover their travel expenses, with all other event-related expenses being covered by the organizers.
